LET ME REITTERATE: IF YOU ARE GOING TO INCLUDE IN YOUR COMMENT A LINK TO YOUR BLOG WHERE YOU SELL THINGS OR INCLUDE AN ADVERTISEMENT OF SOME KIND, I WILL NOT repeat will not APPROVE YOUR COMMENT. Duh.
This is really true.
ReplyDeleteI just heard a story about the roads they put in to fight fires like in California and Yellowstone. The flora around the roads where it was just burned off recovers and prospers in a few years.
But, the roads they put in never do recover for a very long long time.
Disturbance.
We don't understand succession growth. Sometimes the biggest nastiest weedpatch is essential to the next step of a terminal population.
Grass is the worst fix.
an important point is that in areas where there is no human disturbance, such weeds do not appear. they evolved with us. we spread them and keep creating their habitat. in a natural world, the surrounding intact ecosystems would fill in after we left. there is now so little natural intact ecosystem left, that the weeds never get replaced. we need to provide the seeds that the intact ecosystem would provide, because we have erased so much of it. we need to find the seeds in the remaining remnants and bring them to the areas that need healing. we need to help with the next step for succession to happen. Ready to convert that back yard at LOL to prairie yet?
