DC Details

"The whole week! That's too long; they'll be bored after four days!" a friend told us on hearing our vacation plans. No, I don't think so. The time is half up and already we are editing out what we must save for another time. This place is rich, in history, in ideas, in aesthetics. It is layered in meaning and in detail. We will never see it all, not in a hundred weeks.

  2. Yeah, I know - I could spend a whole day photographing just those carved panels on the walks around the capital - we have one day left and 3 things we want to do. Tonight it was finally warm enough and dry enough to finish the mall sights - went to Jefferson Memorial after dark - awesome! And the cherry trees at dusk! Then walked all the way to the capitol then to the hotel. After a whole day at the zoo where we saw the pandas! I have always made fun of the salt and peper shakers at tourist places and this time vowed I would get some - yes, the capitol and the Washington monument - white with . . . yes, gold trim! SOOOO cool!
