The bright light green color and the thin delicate leaf and the very fine black wiry stem makes maidenhair fern one of my favorites. The Garfield Park Conservatory has many kinds, but there is one kind that grows outdoors and is a native woodland plant. It is difficult to look outdoors in March in Illinois and trust that things such as this lie below the ground, promising to emerge in just a few weeks to green the world once again.
