On the Water
It was a beautiful day to be on the water. I cannot swim and I have been afraid of the water all my life, but I do so love to be in it and on it. So the first paddle of each season is always a challenge. But after my appointment that ran late, it was sunny with pretty clouds floating across the sky. With little wind and few boats on the lake, the water was calm. It was a good day to get used to the boat and the paddle and find my balance.
"...cannot swim and I have been afraid of the water all my life" - the result of a childhood incident? I got stuck under a dock when I was three or four but my mom noticed I was missing and somehow pulled me out. I have no memory of the affair and know about it only because of the story mom tells. The city pool was THE place to be growing up so swimming came along with the territory. I do have a gold tooth thanks to a very stupid dive into shallow water that by all rights should have broken my neck. I now require swimming water to be in excess of 80 degrees which really torques my grandkids.
