When you have a kid, the sun rises and sets on that baby. Literally, because they don't sleep much, but also, figuratively in that every decision and every mood are centered around that new amazing life that YOU made. Then, when you are about to have the second one, you worry. Will you have to give it half the love? Will the first one, the most perfect creature on earth, need to give some up to share with his brother? You can hardly bear the thought of that most important being having to get by on less.
And then, they hand you that second baby and a math miracle occurs. Instead of the love being divided in half, the love becomes more. And not just twice as much, like you might think because there is a portion given for each child. No, it is more like a marvelous amazing wonderful multiplication. You love the new one just as much as the first one yes, but you love them both for being each others' brother and for their own uniquenesses. And so, you fear it will be 1 / 2 and you hope it turns out to be 1 + 1, but it really is 2 * infinity. I love you, my boys, and I am glad we will be together for another summer!

The future of America appears to be in good hands...
And it's the very best kind of math, isn't it?
